Going in. Lower High: (the rule confirms: in a downtrend (50-bar 64.00, falling), a bounce to 61.48 at the 20-bar mean 61.27, and close 60.14 turned below the prior low 60.14. Stop 61.79, 2.7% above; target 2R.) Daily downtrend intact, 50-SMA falling at 64.00. Price bounced to 61.48 near the 20-bar mean then closed 60.135, below the prior swing low 60.143 - the lower high confirmed. Stop 61.79 (2.7%, tight for this play). Wrong if price reclaims 61.79; rising dollar/yields support the short.
Coming out. target - Traded down to 56.7505 and filled at 56.8296.
Looking back. This confirms the Lower High play as designed: waiting for a bounce into the 20-bar mean and a close back below the prior swing low gave a clean, well-defined entry with a tight, logical stop above the bounce high. What I see is the trade reaching target quickly (56.75) within a day, which shows that when the downtrend structure is intact (falling 50-SMA, lower highs holding), the 2R target can be reached fast once confirmation triggers - reinforcing that I don't need to over-tighten stops or second-guess the setup once the rule criteria are met.
KWEB short · Z-Score Reversion (Short) · session desk closed Oct 14, 2026 · win · +1.52R
at the open · Oct 9, 2026 · as the desk saw itat the close · Oct 14, 2026 · the plan, the fill and what came of it
Going in. Z-Score Reversion (Short): (the rule confirms: the prior close sat 2.31 standard deviations over the 20-bar mean 24.15 and this close 24.83 turned down; the mean is the way out. Stop 2 ATR (0.11) over the close, at least 0 ATR over the level. Stop 25.04, 0.9% above; target 2R.) Prior close 2.31σ over the 20b mean 24.1535, this close 24.83 turned down. Daily confirms: KWEB under SMA20/50/200 (24.57/25.91/28.87), lower highs/lows intact. Stop 2ATR (0.1055) above close; exit at mean or 1.5R. Wrong if close reclaims 24.9+ swing high or the mean fails to pull price back.
Coming out. target - Traded down to 24.405 and filled at 24.4078.
Looking back. Here's what this record shows: price was stretched 2.31 standard deviations above its 20-bar mean, the close turned down, and the trade was short with a stop placed 2 ATR above entry. The move worked as the rule anticipated — price reverted toward the mean and the target filled for a 1.52R gain. This confirms the core principle of mean-reversion shorts: the stretch plus the turn-down close was the entry trigger, the stop stayed mechanical (2 ATR above price, not above the level), and the exit was pre-defined at the mean or 1.5R rather than left to judgment — nothing new here, just the setup playing out as designed.

Going in. Lower High: (the rule confirms: in a downtrend (50-bar 152.33, falling), a bounce to 152.45 at the 20-bar mean 150.03, and close 151.48 turned below the prior low 151.8. Stop 2.5 ATR (1.23) over the close, at least 1 ATR over the level. Stop 154.56, 2.0% above; target 2R.) 15m downtrend (SMA50 152.33 falling), bounce to 152.45 rejected at 20b mean, close 151.48 turned below prior low 151.8. Daily also just broke its last swing low (152.02), flipping the range to a downtrend - BTC tide weak too. Wrong if price reclaims above 154.56 (2.5 ATR stop) or the 152.02 swing low.
Coming out. stop — Traded up to 155.53 and filled at 154.5648. A stop pays the spread: 0.0773 worse.
Looking back. Here is what I see: this short was entered at 154.33 against a documented Lower-High thesis, with a stop set 2.5 ATR above close at 154.56; price traded up through that level to 155.53 and the stop filled at 154.5648, 0.0773 worse than the stop price itself — a normal spread cost on a stop order, not a sizing or placement error. The loss of -1.33R shows the slippage plus the planned risk, and the thesis invalidation level (154.56 reclaim) is exactly what triggered the exit, meaning the trade did what the plan said it would do if wrong. This confirms the principle that a stop order pays the spread on exit, so realized R on a loss will always run slightly worse than the nominal 1R — that cost is to be expected and sized for, not treated as a new lesson each time.

Going in. Lower High: (the rule confirms: in a downtrend (50-bar 25.97, falling), a bounce to 24.75 at the 20-bar mean 24.56, and close 24.02 turned below the prior low 24.11. Stop 24.88, 3.6% above; target 2R.) Daily downtrend: close under falling SMA50 (25.97), 7.5% below it. Bounce to 24.755 rejected at 20b mean 24.56, close 24.02 turned below prior low 24.115. Wrong if close reclaims the bounce high 24.878.
Coming out. stop — Traded up to 24.9 and filled at 24.8788. A stop pays the spread: 0.0124 worse.
Looking back. Here's what I see: the stop was set exactly at the bounce high (24.878), and price traded up to 24.90 before reversing—close enough to tag the stop by a few ticks before the thesis could play out. The invalidation level and the stop were the same price, which meant any brief overshoot above the bounce high, even one that didn't close there, took the trade out. The record also shows the realized loss ran slightly beyond the stop price itself (filled at 24.8788 vs. 24.515 entry, with the note that the stop paid an extra 0.0124 of spread), which is the known cost of using a hard stop through a fast-moving level.

Going in. Z-Score Reversion (Short): (the rule confirms: the prior close sat 2.21 standard deviations over the 20-bar mean 58.94 and this close 59.06 turned down; the mean is the way out. Stop 2 ATR (0.24) over the close, at least 0 ATR over the level. Stop 59.54, 0.8% above; target 2R.) Prior close sat 2.21σ over the 20-bar (15m) mean 58.9443; this close 59.05882 turned down. Daily confirms: XAG under SMA20/50/200, swing high 62.01 / swing low 59.72, clear downtrend. Stop 2 ATR (0.2383) over close at 59.535434, ~0.8% away. Wrong if price closes back above 59.535 or reclaims the mean without ever turning down.
Coming out. closed at the open — Market order, filled at the open of the next bar.
Looking back. Here's what this record shows: a z-score reversion short entered right after a turn-down from 2.21σ above the 20-bar mean, closed flat/small-loss when the exit rule triggered a market-order close at the next bar's open rather than hitting either the stop or the 2R target. The size of the loss (-0.02R) tells me the stop distance (2 ATR, ~0.8%) was respected and risk was controlled even though the trade didn't work — that's the system doing what it's supposed to do. What stands out is the exit mechanism itself: "closed at the open" on the next bar suggests either a time-based or rule-based invalidation fired quickly, before the reversion thesis had room to play out toward the mean; next time I'll want to look at whether that exit trigger is cutting winners-in-waiting short as often as it's cutting losers, since a 2.21σ extreme reverting to the mean is a thesis that may need more than one b

Going in. Lower High: (the rule confirms: in a downtrend (50-bar 183.00, falling), a bounce to 179.25 at the 20-bar mean 178.52, and close 173.26 turned below the prior low 177. Stop 2.5 ATR (1.22) over the close, at least 1 ATR over the level. Stop 180.47, 4.2% above; target 2R.) Session downtrend (50-bar 183 falling), bounce to 179.25 at 20b mean rejected, close 173.26 turned below prior low 177. Daily is a coil breaking below its 180.81 swing low and SMA50 174.28, consistent with BTC's daily downtrend. Wrong if close reclaims 180.47.
Coming out. stop — Traded up to 180.52 and filled at 180.4737. A stop pays the spread: 0.0902 worse.
Looking back. Here's what I see: this was a lower-high short in a falling 50-bar trend, entered at 176.18 with a stop at 180.47 (4.2% away, sized at 2.5 ATR above the close). Price traded up through the stop to 180.52 and filled at 180.4737, a loss of 1.02R after slippage of 0.09 against the stop.
What the record shows: the invalidation condition ("wrong if close reclaims 180.47") was defined before entry, and the stop was hit cleanly — the thesis was falsified on its own terms, not abandoned early or moved. This confirms the principle that a stop placed at a defined structural level (here, over the prior swing/rejection point) will sometimes be hit by noise before a thesis plays out, and that cost is already priced into the 1R sizing rather than a sign the method is broken.

Going in. Breakdown: (the rule confirms: close 79.53 broke the 20-bar base low 79.75 on 1.6x volume. Stop 81.76, 2.8% above; target 2R.) Close 79.525 broke the 20-bar base low 79.75 on 1.6x volume. Daily confirms: price below SMA20/50/200, coil low 80.14 now lost. Heavy insider selling and a crowded short (64% of volume) now getting confirmation on the break. Wrong if close reclaims 81.76 or the base.
Coming out. closed at the open — Market order, filled at the open of the next bar.
Looking back. Here is what I see: this was a breakdown entry on a confirmed base-low break with volume support, closed flat at -0.29R when the position was exited at the open rather than hitting the stated stop (81.76) or target. The record shows the thesis wasn't invalidated — no reclaim of the base — the exit was simply a discretionary close-at-open rather than the plan's own exit rule.
Principle I'm taking from this: when I define a stop and target going in, I should let the trade run to one of those two levels or to a clear thesis-invalidation signal, rather than closing early at the next open for reasons outside the written plan — early discretionary exits turn a defined-risk trade into an undefined one and make the R-result hard to attribute to the thesis itself.

Stop 2.5 ATR (0.00) over the close, at least 1 ATR over the level. Stop 0.09, 3.5% above; target 2R.) Daily and 1h both downtrend (50-bar falling), bounce to 20b mean 0.09 rejected, close 0.08626 turned below prior low 0.08639. Stop over bounce high at 0.089321 (3.5%), target 2R at 0.080138. Wrong if close reclaims 0.089.
Coming out. target - Traded down to 0.08 and filled at 0.0801.
Looking back. This trade confirms a principle I already follow: in a confirmed downtrend, waiting for a bounce into the 20-bar mean, then entering only after rejection and a close below the prior low, gives a clean, well-defined invalidation point for the stop. Here the stop placed at ~3.5% above entry (2.5 ATR) held through to target without being tested, and price ran the full distance to the 2R objective — showing that when trend, mean-reversion-rejection, and structure (lower high, broken prior low) all align, the planned R-multiple target is a reasonable place to expect price can reach. The lesson reinforced: let the setup's own structure define the stop and target before entry, then let the trade run to that predefined level rather than managing it discretionarily.

Going in. Breakdown Retest: (the rule confirms: close 374.97 failed the retest of 376.08, the 20-bar low a close lost 1 bar ago (high 375.87). Stop 1.5 ATR (1.60) over the close, at least 1 ATR over the level. Stop 377.68, 0.7% above; target 2R.) Post gap-up (10/2, +5% on huge vol) consolidation 370-382 now breaking: today's hourly spiked to 382.3 then reversed, closing 374.97 after losing 20b low 376.08 and failing a retest at 375.865 in the lower half of the bar. Daily is a range not a confirmed downtrend, so I'm sizing at the cap, not stretching. Wrong if close reclaims 376.08.
Coming out. stop — Traded up to 377.8 and filled at 377.682. A stop pays the spread: 0.1888 worse.
Looking back. Here's what I see in this record: the thesis was invalidated exactly as planned—price reclaimed above the 376.08 level that defined the breakdown, triggering the stop at 377.68, with an extra 0.19 of slippage against the fill. The stop distance (1.5 ATR, ~0.7% above entry) was sized correctly per the plan, and the loss landed close to the intended 1R before slippage pushed it to 1.09R.
Principle this confirms: in a range (not a confirmed downtrend), breakdown-retest shorts need the failed-retest level to actually hold — a late-session reclaim of the prior low is the clean invalidation signal, and the stop placement did its job of capping risk at the planned size rather than letting a failed setup run further against the position.

Daily sits under SMA20/50/200 (4235/4362/4385), dollar and yields rising - a headwind for gold. Stop 1.5 ATR over the close at 4119.97; wrong if close reclaims 4109.14.
Coming out. stop — Traded up to 4125.9232 and filled at 4119.9721. A stop pays the spread: 2.06 worse.
Looking back. Here's what I see in this record: the breakdown-retest thesis called the level right at entry (close failed the retest of the prior low), but price traded back up through the stop by more than the planned buffer, filling 2.06 worse than the stop price itself — that's the spread/slippage cost on a stop showing up on the book. The 1.5 ATR stop placement and 2R target were sized and planned correctly per the rule; the loss of -1.08R reflects the stop being paid plus slippage, not a sizing or rule error. What this confirms: a stop order pays the spread and sometimes more on a fast move through the level, so the realized loss on a stopped-out breakdown-retest trade will typically run a bit worse than the stop distance alone suggests.

(the 200-day is not known yet (160 daily bars stored, it needs 200), so it did not gate this) Close 12.515 broke the 20-bar base low 12.6 on 1.96x RVOL. Daily price (12.52) now sits below both SMA20 (13.42) and SMA50 (12.69), confirming the base break rather than a pullback in trend. Stop 12.81375 over the last five bars' high +0.5%, target 11.9175 at 2R. Wrong if close reclaims 12.6.
Coming out. target — Traded down to 11.875 and filled at 11.9175.
Looking back. Here's what I see: this was a breakdown short entered on a confirmed 20-bar low break with elevated volume, with a stop set above recent highs and a 2R target. The trade closed as a partial fill at the target price (11.9175), recorded at 0.35R rather than the full planned R-multiple — which tells me the exit mechanics (partial fill at target) capped the realized gain well below what the 2R target was designed to capture. The principle I take from this: when a target fill is partial, the record shows I need to track what fraction of the position actually executed, since the R-multiple result reflects the fill, not just the price level reached.

Going in. Head and Shoulders: (discretionary; the rule did not fire: the neckline 7.33 was already lost by the prior close 7.29; the break is not new) Close 7.293 broke neckline 7.334 under head 8.323 between shoulders 7.736/7.676. Daily confirms the reversal: 20d +27.85% run now lower-highs/lower-lows off swing high 7.847. Stop 7.71438 over right shoulder +0.5%; target 6.345 measured move. Wrong if close reclaims the neckline 7.334.
Coming out. closed at the open — Market order, filled at the open of the next bar.
Looking back. Here's what I see in this record: the setup note itself flagged the problem going in — the neckline at 7.33 had already been lost by the prior close of 7.29, so the pattern's trigger wasn't a fresh break, it was a late chase of a move already in progress. The trade was closed by a market order at the next bar's open rather than at the stop or target, for a loss of -0.22R.
Principle I'll apply next time: if my own thesis notes that the rule "did not fire" because the level was already broken on a prior close, that's a signal to pass, not to enter on discretion — a confirmed break means entering near where confirmation happened, not days after price has already moved past it.

Going in. Breakdown: (discretionary; the rule did not fire: close 1.13 broke the 20-bar base low 1.16 on 5.2x volume. The stop would be 8.4% away, and a setup that does not define a stop inside 8% is a reason not to take it rather than a reason to widen.) Close 1.1573 broke 20-bar base low 1.1931 on 2.2x volume; daily structure shows lower highs/lows off swing high 1.2638. Stop over last 5-bar high invalidates; target 2R.
Coming out. target — Traded down to 1.013 and filled at 1.0181.
Looking back. What I see: this trade broke my own stated rule going in — the stop distance was already flagged at over 8% before entry, which by my own criteria was a reason to skip, not to widen. Despite that, the breakdown played out to target and closed at 1.05R, a win on paper.
Principle I'm taking forward: a rule that gets overridden and still wins doesn't validate the override — it just means this one worked. The discipline I confirm is: if a setup can't define a stop inside my own risk threshold, that's a pass, regardless of how the trade would have gone.

Close 0.09177 broke the 20-bar base low 0.09324 on 2.5x volume; daily confirms downtrend (lower highs/lows, swing high 0.0981 broken, 5d -3.01%). Stop 0.09454 (close back inside base) invalidates; target 2R.
Coming out. target — Traded down to 0.0853 and filled at 0.0862.
Looking back. Here's what this record shows: the breakdown setup worked in the intended direction—price broke the 20-bar base low on elevated volume (2.5x) with a downtrend already confirmed on the daily, and the trade moved toward target before filling at 0.0862 on a partial basis at 0.87R. What I take from this: a partial exit short of the full 2R target on a valid breakdown isn't a failure of the thesis, it's a reminder that targets are often filled at the market's pace, not mine, and locking partial gains on a confirmed break is a legitimate way to respect the move without needing price to hit the exact number. This confirms the existing principle: when the stop and target are set by the breakdown rule itself (close back inside base invalidates, 2R target), the job is to let the rule execute and accept whatever fraction of R the market actually delivers between entry and stop-out or fill.

Stop 186.96, 0.9% above; target 2R.) 15m: close 185.3 failed retest of 186.14, the 20b low lost 2 bars ago (high 185.71 on the retest bar), closing lower-half of range. Stop 186.955 (1.5 ATR over close, >1 ATR over level), target 181.99 (2R). Daily is a coil sitting right on SMA200 (184.79) between SMA50 173.79 and SMA20 186.36 - not a confirmed downtrend, so I'm sized to plan, not stretched. Wrong if price closes back above 186.14.
Coming out. target — Opened past the price and filled at 181.99.
Looking back. I see that this short filled well past the stated entry (181.99 vs. 185.59) due to a gap, which effectively front-loaded the reward before the trade even started moving — that's a favorable fill, not something to expect or rely on. The setup rule itself held up: breakdown-retest failed cleanly at the 20-bar low, stop placed at 1.5 ATR over the close (above both the level and the retest high), target hit at 2R. The record confirms the existing principle: wait for the retest failure to close in the lower half of the range before sizing in, and let a gap-favorable fill be treated as variance, not as validation of entry timing.

Going in. Z-Score Reversion (Short): (the rule confirms: the prior close sat 3.75 standard deviations over the 20-bar mean 84.48 and this close 85.8 turned down; the mean is the way out. Stop 2 ATR (0.34) over the close, at least 0 ATR over the level. Stop 86.48, 0.8% above; target 2R.) Close 85.80 sat 3.75σ over the 20b mean 84.48 and turned down. Daily confirms: price under SMA20/50/200 (89.17/96.55/119.65), 20d -13.74%, trend-confirmed unlike the recent NEAR/XRP crypto losses where daily was still up. Wrong if price closes back above 86.48.
Coming out. stop — Traded up to 86.565 and filled at 86.4792. A stop pays the spread: 0.0432 worse.
Looking back. Here's what I see: the entry was taken right as the prior close sat 3.75σ over the mean, with the stop placed only 0.8% above the level (2 ATR) — on a short, that's a tight cushion against intraday noise, and this trade shows price traded up through 86.48, triggered the stop, and the fill came 0.0432 worse than the stop price itself, adding to the loss. This confirms the standing principle that stop distance has to account for the spread/slippage cost on top of the technical stop level, not just the ATR multiple; a stop set at the bare minimum distance gets paid in full by the spread when it's hit. I also notice the thesis (trend-confirmed, daily under all three SMAs) was directionally right about the broader picture, but the trade still lost because reversion trades against a strong downtrend can see sharp counter-moves that tag a nearby stop before the mean-reversion plays out.

Daily confirms downtrend (below SMA20/50/200, 20d -4.14%), and rising yields/dollar are a headwind for metals. Wrong if price closes back above 61.346.
Coming out. closed at the open — Market order, filled at the open of the next bar.
Looking back. Here's what I see: this was a breakdown-retest short where the level held as resistance—close stayed under the 61.35 20-bar low, the stop at 61.54 was never threatened, and the trade closed at the open for 1.51R. The setup confirmed the core principle: when a lost level gets retested and rejected (close 61.04 failing below 61.35), with trend alignment (below SMA20/50/200) and a macro tailwind (yields/dollar) pointing the same direction, the retest-failure entry can work cleanly without needing to run to the full 2R target. No new lesson here—this confirms that exiting on a market-order close-at-open rule captured a partial win without giving back gains, which is consistent with the stop/target structure as planned.

Daily structure already confirms downtrend (lower highs/lows, last swing high 0.2364 lost) — unlike NEAR/XRP/ZEC shorts today that fought an intact uptrend and stopped. Wrong if daily reclaims 0.2364 or close holds above mean.
Coming out. closed at the open — Market order, filled at the open of the next bar.
Looking back. Here's what I see: this was a mean-reversion short entered on a 2.15σ extension with the daily structure aligned (lower highs/lows intact), closed the next day at the open for -0.25R rather than hitting either the stop or the 2R target. That exit method — closing at the open on a market order rather than letting the stop or target resolve the trade — is what determined the outcome here, not a stop-out and not a thesis failure. The record shows the setup criteria (extension + downtrend structure) were met going in; what it confirms is that a time-based or discretionary exit before stop/target can produce a small loss even when the stop itself was never touched, which is a separate variable from whether the z-score reversion edge itself worked.

Close 7.389 failed retest of lost 20b low 7.423 (high only 7.451). 1h confirms downtrend; daily is a range, not an uptrend to fight. RSI 41.7, not overbought. Wrong if close regains 7.514 or daily reclaims range high.
Coming out. stop — Traded up to 7.516 and filled at 7.5141. A stop pays the spread: 0.0038 worse.
Looking back. Here's what I see in this record: the breakdown-retest thesis was invalidated exactly as the plan defined it—price closed back above the 7.514 level the trader had pre-written as the "wrong if" condition, and the stop at 7.51 triggered with normal slippage (filled 7.5141 vs 7.516 high, a 0.0038 spread cost). The loss of -1.03R is consistent with a correctly-sized, correctly-placed stop doing its job when the level failed to hold; there's no evidence here of a sizing error or a stop placed too tight relative to the stated 1.5 ATR rule. This confirms the principle that a retest-failure thesis needs the retest to actually fail—when price reclaims the invalidation point, the stop is the system working, not a flaw to fix.

Stop 2 ATR (0.59) over the close, at least 0 ATR over the level. Stop 72.99, 1.6% above; target 2R.) Prior close sat 2.31σ over the 20b mean (70.56); this close 71.816 turned down - the z-score short trigger. Stop 2 ATR over close (72.99, 1.6%). Daily LTC is a strong uptrend (+35% 20d, RSI 75) so this is a countertrend scalp to the mean only. Wrong if price reclaims the turn bar's high.
Coming out. target — Traded down to 70.48 and filled at 70.5594.
Looking back. Here's what I see in this record: the setup was a mean-reversion short taken against a strong prevailing uptrend (+35% over 20 days, RSI 75), with the trigger being a 2.31σ extension above the 20-bar mean that turned down on the prior bar. The stop was placed 2 ATR above the close (72.99), and the target was set at the mean, with the trade closing early—filled at 70.5594 for a partial 0.80R gain rather than the full 2R target.
What this confirms for me: when countertrend mean-reversion shorts are taken inside a strong trend, treating the mean as a conservative take-profit zone rather than pushing for the full 2R is a sound match of size and expectation to the context—the trade hit a partial target quickly rather than running, consistent with "scalp to the mean only" framing stated going in. Going in. Z-Score Reversion (Short): (discretionary; the rule did not fire: the prior close sat 1.38 standard deviations over the 20-bar mean; the play waits for 2) Prior close 2.22σ over the 20b mean (1.4920); this close 1.4985 turned down. Stop 2 ATR (0.0050) over close at 1.508557. Exit at mean reclaim or 1.5R. Wrong if close reclaims above 1.508557 or stretch resolves upward instead of back to mean.
Coming out. stop — Traded up to 1.5086 and filled at 1.5086. A stop pays the spread: 0.0008 worse.
Looking back. Here's what I see in this record: the entry was taken at 1.38σ over the 20-bar mean, but the stated rule for this play waits for 2σ before firing — so this was a discretionary entry ahead of the setup's own threshold. The stop was placed at 2 ATR (0.0050) over the entry close, and price traded through it to 1.5086, filling with 0.0008 of slippage against the stop level, for a loss of -1.09R.
The principle this confirms: when a play's rule specifies a trigger condition (here, 2σ), entering before that condition is met is a different trade than the one being back-tested or sized for, and the stop distance calculated for the ruled-in setup may not fit the discretionary early entry.

Stop 2 ATR over close at 4.961986 (3.1% away, inside 8% cap). Exit at the mean or 1.5R, whichever first. Wrong if close reclaims above the stop or stalls without reverting toward the mean.
Coming out. stop — Traded up to 4.9708 and filled at 4.962. A stop pays the spread: 0.0025 worse.
Looking back. Here's what the record shows: this trade was flagged as discretionary going in — the rule called for a 2σ extension before shorting, but the entry was taken at 1.41σ, short of that threshold. Price then ran straight to the stop, filling 0.0025 worse than placed, for a loss of 1.02R. What this confirms: the setup's own criteria exist for a reason, and taking the trade before the signal fully formed removed the edge the play is built on — the discretionary override here didn't add information, it just moved the entry earlier into a continuation rather than a reversion.

Daily structure is a downtrend (last swing high 784.3, low 750.48), so the short agrees with the higher frame. Stop 2 ATR over close (795.49, 0.9% away); wrong if price closes back above the bounce high or regains the mean on strength.
Coming out. stop — Traded up to 796.78 and filled at 795.4871. A stop pays the spread: 0.3977 worse.
Looking back. Here's what I see in this record: the entry thesis leaned on an extreme z-score (2.49σ over the 20-bar mean) plus RSI14 at 90.36, reading the move as stretched and due to revert. But price didn't turn at the signal bar — it kept pushing up through the stop level at 795.49, filled at 795.49 with slippage of 0.3977 beyond, for a loss of 1.06R.
The principle this confirms: an extreme z-score or RSI reading is not itself a reversal signal — it describes how stretched price is, not when it stops stretching, and a close that "turns down" one bar can still resume upward before the mean is ever reached. The stop placement (2 ATR over close) did its job of defining risk, but the loss shows the entry trigger fired on a reading that persisted rather than reverted. Next time I'd want to see confirmation of the turn (a lower high or a break of short-term structure)

Coming out. closed at the open — Market order, filled at the open of the next bar.
Looking back. Here's what I see on this one: the setup called for a short after price sat 2.52σ above the 20-bar mean and the close turned down, with the stop placed 2.8% above entry at 1.2403 and the mean (1.1398) as the target. The trade closed early—not at the stop, not at the target—but by a market-order exit at the next bar's open, which came in at -0.34R, a partial loss well short of the full stop distance.
What this record shows me: the exit mechanism here wasn't price hitting the planned stop or target, it was a time/rule-based close at the next open. That means the loss size (-0.34R) reflects wherever that next open happened to land, not a test of whether the mean-reversion thesis was right or wrong. The principle I'd carry forward is to separate "the stop was hit" from "the trade was closed by a different rule" when reviewing results — a small loss from an early mechanical exit doesn't confirm or deny

Going in. Lower High: (discretionary; the rule did not fire: close 1304.8 has not turned below the prior low 1303.65) Daily ZEC topped at 1693.2 on 9/26 and has fallen 6 straight sessions to 1301 (-23%), a fresh downtrend not an intact uptrend being fought. On 1h, price bounced to 1321.77 at the falling 20-bar mean (1313.68, 50-bar 1344.70 falling) and closed 1307.62, below the prior swing low 1313.67. Wrong if price closes back above the bounce high 1336.18.
Coming out. stop — Traded up to 1343.37 and filled at 1336.1843. A stop pays the spread: 0.6681 worse.
Looking back. Here's what I see in this record: the entry was taken while the stated rule hadn't actually fired yet — the thesis itself notes "the rule did not fire: close 1304.8 has not turned below the prior low 1303.65," which is a discretionary override on an unconfirmed signal. The invalidation level (1336.18) was traded through to a fill at 1336.18 plus 0.67 of slippage, meaning the stop placement sat right at a level price had already shown willingness to revisit intrahour. The principle this confirms: entering before a rule condition confirms, then placing the stop at the exact "wrong if" level with no buffer for spread/slippage, converts a clean thesis into a higher-probability stop-out even when the broader trend thesis may still be correct.

Base Breakout
testing · from the shelfno record
Entry. DRAFT - correct this. Price clears a defined multi-week base or prior range high, and the entry is taken on the clearance rather than in anticipation of it. Eleven closed trades, all long, all in names that were already moving: COIN, MSTR x3, PLTR, RXRX, BTC x2, NEAR x3.
Stop. Beneath the low of the base being cleared. YOUR RECORD IS UNUSUALLY CLEAR about this: stops on these eleven ranged from 1.3% to 14.1% of entry, and the two losses had among the widest (14.1% on RXRX, 7.3% on NEAR) while the two largest wins had the tightest (1.3% and 1.7%, both NEAR). A wide stop here has not been protection - it has been a bigger denominator and a worse trade. If the base does not define a stop inside roughly 8%, that is a reason not to take it rather than a reason to widen.
Exit. Planned reward:risk has been 1.7 to 2.9 on the ordinary ones and the realised R has usually beaten it, which says the exits have been patient enough. Median hold is five days; the one 46-day hold returned 2.48R and was not an outlier in R terms. Exit on a close back inside the base.
Flag Pennant
testing · from the shelfno record
Entry. DRAFT - correct this. A pause inside an existing trend - a flag or pennant - entered on resumption rather than on the pause. Three closed trades, all long, all continuation: SOL twice and MSTR once.
Stop. Beneath the flag. Stops have been 3.6%, 4.1% and 11.8%; the widest was also the longest hold at 46 days, which is worth watching - a flag that needs a 12% stop and six weeks may not be a flag.
Exit. THREE WINS FROM THREE, AND THAT IS NOT A 100% SETUP. Raw expectancy is 1.37R and the shrunk figure is 0.18R, because three instances cannot tell an edge from a run of luck. The returns have been modest and consistent - 1.68R, 1.00R, 1.43R - which is what a continuation trade should look like. It needs nine more instances before the number means anything.
Capitulation Washout
testing · from the shelfno record
Entry. DRAFT - correct this. Entering after a flush rather than during one: a high-volume break down that reclaims. Three closed trades, all long - SOL twice, MRVL once.
Stop. This is the play where your stops have been least consistent: 0.7%, 12.1% and 8.7%. The 0.7% one returned 9.39R and the 12.1% one was the loss. On three trades that is an anecdote rather than a finding, but it points the same way Base Breakout does.
Exit. Held 44, 26 and 6 days - the widest spread of the three plays, which suggests the exit is being decided in the moment rather than in advance. Writing one down is the cheapest improvement available here.

Stop. Under the gap bar's low by half a percent.
Exit. The gap filled - the prior close - or a close below the gap bar's low, whichever comes first.
Trend Pullback
testing · from the shelfno record
Entry. LONG. An uptrend: the twenty-bar average over the fifty-bar and higher than five bars ago. Trigger: a bar whose low comes down to the twenty-bar average, within one percent, and closes back above it.
Stop. Under the pullback's low - the lowest of the last three bars - by half a percent.
Exit. Two R, or a close below the fifty-bar average, whichever comes first. Twenty bars without the target and the time stop takes it off.
Trend Bounce
paused · from the shelfno record
Entry. SHORT. A downtrend: the twenty-bar average under the fifty-bar and lower than five bars ago. Trigger: a bar whose high comes up to the twenty-bar average, within one percent, and closes back below it.
Stop. Over the bounce's high - the highest of the last three bars - by half a percent.
Exit. Two R, or a close above the fifty-bar average, whichever comes first. Twenty bars without the target and the time stop takes it off.
Bollinger With The Trend
paused · from the shelfno record
Entry. LONG. Above the 200-day average. The prior close under the lower Bollinger band (twenty bars, two deviations); this close back inside it. A dip bought inside a standing uptrend.
Stop. Two ATR under the close. If that is more than eight percent from the entry the trade is skipped.
Exit. One R, or a close at the middle band, whichever comes first. Twenty bars without the target and the time stop takes it off.
Bollinger With The Trend (Short)
paused · from the shelfno record
Entry. SHORT. Under the 200-day average. The prior close over the upper Bollinger band; this close back inside it. A bounce sold inside a standing downtrend.
Stop. Two ATR over the close. If that is more than eight percent from the entry the trade is skipped.
Exit. One R, or a close at the middle band, whichever comes first. Twenty bars without the target and the time stop takes it off.
Z-Score Reversion (Short)
testing · from the shelfno record
Entry. SHORT. Stretch, then the turn. The prior close sat two or more standard deviations over its twenty-bar mean (the z-score; the two is yours, and each name may carry its own from its backtest in the study), and this close is lower than the last. With the trend switch on, the close must stand under the 200-day as well.
Stop. Two ATR over the close, and never under the high of the turn. If that is more than eight percent from the entry the trade is skipped.
Exit. A close back at the twenty-bar mean, or one and a half R, whichever comes first. Twenty bars without either and the time stop takes it off.

A play is a trigger, a stop and an exit in the writer's words. The figure is the paper record, shrunk toward zero with a weight of twenty closed trades.
